In the US, we call it the Rape of Nanking. Japan, well they have a different take on it.

There was a picture in the Hiroshima peace museum that they displayed for a long time with a caption like, "A pleasant celebration on the streets of Hiroshima in the midst of the war, pre-bomb"- but it was a picture of citizens celebrating after hearing word about the taking of Nanking (I think they might have even been welcoming home some soldiers). In the 90s, the museum took the picture down and modified the caption.
